When it comes to Summer festivals and events, Fort Wayne never disappoints. Check out some of the great happenings around town.

July’s highlight is the annual return of the Three Rivers Festival! Friday July 10 through Saturday July 18. The Festival draws over half a million people Downtown to hear music, eat great food, watch the parade, and enjoy 80+ other related events . Check out the concert listings and find out how to get the MEGA MUSIC PASS to get into as many of the concerts as you like (and save some big bucks!). Unfortunately, due to the flooding, the raft race and a couple other events were cancelled, but there’s still a lot of fun to be had!

Of course, we can’t forget about the 4th! Fort Wayne’s 4th of July Fireworks start at 10PM off the One Summit Square building downtown. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and camp out on the courthouse square for a great view!

Other fun activities in July include:

  • The Allen County Public Library hosts lots of kid-friendly concerts all summer, as well as the Saturday evening Rock the Plaza concerts
  • Every Friday night at the Courtyard Fountain at Jefferson Pointe enjoy live local music at the Friday Nites Live concert series
  • The YLNI Barr Street Farmers Market is every Saturday and “offers fresh and unique local produce, plants, meats, baked goods and homemade crafts in a cultural outdoor setting. Every vendor is local, coming from Allen or surrounding counties.”
  • Until July 15 Artlink Gallery will have the Exquisite Corpse Exhibition and Left to Ruin Invitational showing works of art (inspired by a game played by artists of the Surrealist Movement) where at least two artists or writers work together to create a single piece
  • Enjoy lunch and music at Lunch on the Plaza  — food trucks and great local music every Thursday, Downtown at the Indiana Michigan Power Center Plaza 11:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
  • The Tincaps! Check out the July game schedule. Stay after the game on the 4th for a great seat for the downtown fireworks!

Happy 4th of July — enjoy the month! We’ll have more fun suggestions for August at the end of the month.

Free Golf for Apartment Residents

Did you know that Willow Creek Crossing Apartments residents can golf for free at the Donald Ross Golf Club? Did you also know that Donald Ross was a Scotsman who came to the US to design golf courses in the early 1900s and that he designed over 413 courses including Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina, Seminole in Florida, and Oakland Hills in Detroit (the site of the 1996 U.S. Open)? AND, in 1927 Ross designed this course for Fort Wayne and is a real gem of a place to play. It’s now open for the season and is conveniently located at 7102 S. Calhoun Street.

Shake off that cabin fever and take advantage of our free golf membership! Residents 16 and older can golf for free at the Donald Ross golf course just minutes from Willow Crek Crossing Apartments. Stop in to the leasing office today to pick up your monthly golf pass.

Fort Wayne: So Many Fun Reasons to Love Living Here

things to do in fort wayne

things to do in fort wayne

Fort Wayne’s got some pretty great stuff going on, right? Livability.com sure thinks so. They recently ranked our city #6 in its 2015 “Top 10 Best Affordable Places to Live

Livability.com cited the low costs of transportation, housing and groceries as the indicators that put Fort Wayne on their “affordable” list. But what put it on their “best places to live” radar was the wide array of entertainment options. They listed the “museums and art galleries, the public parks, the zoo, the Philharmonic, the Johnny Appleseed Festival, the Three Rivers Festival, IPFW, and our minor league hockey, baseball, and basketball teams.”

Yep, they’re right! Where else but Fort Wayne can you rent an apartment starting at only $450 a month and have so many great entertainment options! But wait, there’s more they didn’t even mention:

And, the future for our town looks even brighter with the exciting plan for the downtown river front development! Plus, with our central location, we’re just a short drive from other great cities including Indianapolis, Chicago, Columbus, Ann Arbor, and everywhere in between.  And…

OK — you get the idea…there’s so much to do in Fort Wayne almost every weekend of the year! With warmer weather on its way, it’s time to step foot out of your apartment and go have some fun.

May is Jam Packed with Fun Family Things-to-do in Fort Wayne

What to do in Fort Wayne

May is an event filled month in Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana. It’s a great time to be an apartment dweller and have those extra hours in your life that you don’t have when you’re taking care of a house and yard all weekend.

I’ve made a chart of some of the May events, because there are just too many to talk about.  We’ve still got tournament playoff hockey going on with the Komets,  Baseball downtown, two major holidays, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day.  Major concerts, of course, and even something new to Fort Wayne, the first ever Appleseed Comics and Art Convention, a little bit of ComicCon right here in the Fort.

Or you might want to check out the pets at the Northern Indiana Pet Expo at the Coliseum.  You know, of course, that Willow Creek Crossing Apartments does accept small pets, so this show can help you pick out the small dog or cat that will best fit into your apartment lifestyle.

Don’t forget ongoing things to do, like the Zoo, walking paths, and state parks, like Pokagan just 45 minutes north of town.  And, of course, on May 25th, there’s the 98th running of the Indianapolis 500 in Indy.

Also in May, we celebrate the Mexican Army’s victory over the French on May 5th, 1986.  And since someone asked me the other day when Cinco de Mayo was this year, I will let you know that Cinco de Mayo is celebrated on May 5 every year.  And if you’re advance planning for July, July 4th will be celebrated on July 4th again this year.  Have fun.
