The “lazy days” of summer are going fast, but Fort Wayne still a lot of fun summer-time activities to enjoy before school starts back up:
Fort Wayne Library
Need a break from the heat? The Allen County Public Library is a fun, and free, way for all ages to spend a few hours. Here’s a list of services and events perfect for keeping the kids busy such as story times, Lego Club, Minecraft Masters, and more!
Farmer’s Market
Love great local produce? August is the best month for it and if you’ve never been to the historic South Side Farmers’s Market, put it on your bucket list! Open Saturdays 7am – 1pm, Easter through mid-December, it’s located at 3300 Warsaw Street and it Fort Wayne’s oldest continually operating farmers’ market. Find everything from local fruits and veggies, fresh baked goods, eggs, local honey and hormone-free pork & chicken, to hand-crafted items and antiques.There are also master gardeners on site that are available to answer the questions people may have about growing their own gardens.
Young Eagles Flight Rally
Need something different to do with the kids? Young Eagles Flight Rally at Smith Field Airport will offer FREE flights for kids ages 8-17, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, August 9 (registration from 9-11 a.m.), A parent or guardian must be present.
Pufferbelly 5K Run/Walk
Want to burn off some of those summer ice-cream-eating-calories AND support a great cause? Fort Wayne Trails Pufferbelly 5K Run/Walk will be Saturday, August 8. A 5K run/walk, kid’s fun run, games, live music, pony rides and food will support efforts to extend the trails from Downtown all the way up to Pokagon State Park.
Taste of the Arts
Support the arts (and enjoy food from great local restaurants) at The Annual Taste of the Arts on Saturday, August 29, 2015. And, since Buskerfest was canceled this year, they’ll be on hand entertaining us at this year’s Taste of the Arts.
More Summer Fun
Plus, these summer-specific activities won’t be around much longer — check ‘em out while you still can:
- Barr Street Farmers Market is every Saturday and offers fresh and unique local produce, plants, meats, baked goods and homemade crafts in a cultural outdoor setting. Every vendor is local, coming from Allen or surrounding counties.
- The last of the YLNI “Living Fort Wayne Concert Series” is Wed., August 5 at Headwaters
- Lunch on the Plaza — food trucks and great local music every Thursday, Downtown at the Indiana Michigan Power Center Plaza 11:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Willow Creek Crossing Apartments residents enjoy the good life and always have something to do! Cool off at one of our two swimming pools, play tennis or sand volleyball, hit the fitness center or billiard room, or enjoy free golf at Donald Ross Golf Club.
